I can’t see the stars for the city lights But I know they are out there I can’t see the green for the brick But I know it’s somewhere I can’t see the rivers for the tyres The broken bottles and coffee cups empty wrappers and shopping trolleys soggy scratch cards with no luck I can feel it’s dying But I don’t want to look Forests on fire and orangutans Clinging to burning trees But that’s not here And I can’t see it up close Now my city is burning Fields on fire Like the world has a fever And the medicine is too bitter to take The stars are still out there but the world won’t wait for us to wake up
