The signs said no blacks no Irish and no dogs and see I’m probably two of those things but I carry shame and privilege in the pigment of my skin suffering might be deep in my DNA but I don’t get called out day by day for the colour I was born in the past is never really erased just papered over waiting for someone to renovate I want to hear different voices the sound of someone else’s song or this world will stagnate the whispers of the masters ringing in my brain and it’s not about blame it about looking reality in the face because it was never in my name but I stand on blood and bone all the same we have come so far but there’s still so much to change I need to hear different voices and not those speaking on my behalf ignoring my cause to promote their way taking my name and twisting it into a brick to build castles for their gain or to smash in stained glass windows because someone used a different kind of paint so if you want to use it for something how about you listen in my name
